BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is challenging Democrat Darcy Burner, candidate for Washington State’s 8th District, to repudiate her endorsement from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, on the grounds that she has claimed to be a pro-gun Democrat.
“Early in the campaign, Darcy Burner indicated that she supports an individual citizen’s right to keep and bear arms,†said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. “Now is her chance to prove it by telling the Brady Campaign to keep their endorsement. Otherwise, it is a clear signal to firearms owners in Washington’s 8th Congressional District where she really stands on the issue of individual gun rights.
“As election day approaches,†Gottlieb stated, “gun owners have every right, and an absolute responsibility, to know in advance how someone who may represent them in Congress will vote on issues directly affecting their firearms freedom. Any candidate accepting an endorsement from an extremist gun control organization may as well put his or her name up in neon lights as opposing firearms ownership.â€
The Brady Campaign has released a list of candidates whom it is endorsing – nearly all Democrats – and Burner’s name was prominent. The Democrat newcomer is challenging incumbent Republican and former King County Sheriff Dave Reichert.
“It should come as no surprise to gun owners that Brady Campaign endorsements go overwhelmingly to Democrats and that should serve as a clear indication that, despite all claims otherwise, a key Democrat Party principle is to strip American citizens of their gun rights, and ultimately every firearm they own. While individual Democrats may reject that notion, until they erase gun control from the party agenda, gun owners must view Democrats with distrust.
“Burner has an opportunity to demonstrate some independence from the traditionally anti-gun Democrat party leadership right now, in the days before the election,†Gottlieb observed. “It’s no secret that ranking Democrats including Nancy Pelosi, who envisions herself as the next House Speaker, are literally salivating at the prospect of being able to push their extremist agenda for the first time in 14 years. Burner has a chance to stand apart from the crowd and just say ‘No’.â€
